Approximately 40 % of persons with diabetes develop diabetic nephropathy, manifested as albuminuria and/or decreased glomerular fi ltration rate. Even mild degrees of albuminuria and decrease in glomerular fi ltration rate are associated with signifi cantly increased risks of cardiovascular disease, end-stage renal disease, and premature deaths.

Recombinant fibromodulin has therapeutic effects on diabetic nephropathy by down-regulating transforming growth factor-β1 in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model
Objective(s):Diabetic nephropathy is an important long-term complication of diabetes mellitus which appears to be partially mediated by an increase in secretion of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). Fibromodulin, the small leucine-rich proteoglycan, has been proposed to be the potent TGFβ1 modulator. In this study, the therapeutic effects of recombinant adenoviral vectors expressing fibromod...
متن کاملRisk Factors for Diabetic Nephropathy in Diabetic Patients
Aims: Diabetic nephropathy is one of the consequences of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and one of the main causes of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) as well as an important risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and death. The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors for diabetic nephropathy in diabetic patients. Instruments & Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 121 pat...
متن کاملPrevalence and risk factors of diabetic nephropathy in an urban South Indian population: the Chennai Urban Rural Epidemiology Study (CURES 45).
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of diabetic nephropathy among urban Asian-Indian type 2 diabetic subjects. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Type 2 diabetic subjects (n = 1,716), inclusive of known diabetic subjects (KD subjects) (1,363 of 1,529; response rate 89.1%) and randomly selected newly diagnosed diabetic subjects (NDD subjects) (n = 353) were selected from t...
متن کاملNon-albuminuric Diabetic Kidney Disease in Diabetic Patients: A Review
Introduction: The constantly increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes, probably due to obesity and sedentary life, has led to the increased incidence of macro- and microvascular diabetic complications such as nephropathy. Despite the prompt efforts to develop effective treatments for diabetes and slow the progression of its complications, it is still reported as the most common cause of chronic ...
متن کاملExtract of Adenanthera pavonina L. seed reduces development of diabetic nephropathy in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the renal protective effect of Adenanthera pavonina (A. pavonina) seed aqueous extract (APSAE), in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: The renal protective effect of A. pavonina seed aqueous extract (APSAE) was studied in STZ-induced diabetic rats. APSAE (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg per day) was given daily to ...
